FAQ — Whisper Claw Safaris
When is the best time to visit East Africa for safari?
The dry season — June to October — offers the best wildlife viewing across Kenya and Tanzania, with animals gathered around watering holes and the Great Migration in full motion. December to March is warm and vibrant, perfect for newborn sightings and combining your safari with a beach stay in Mombasa or Zanzibar. Shoulder months bring fewer visitors and softer light for photographers.
How much does an East Africa safari cost?
Prices depend on country, season, and comfort level. Our mid-range safaris start around US $2,000 p.p. for 7 days, while luxury private safaris with boutique lodges average US $4,000–7,000 p.p. Combination trips across Kenya and Tanzania usually range from US $3,500–6,500 p.p. Every quote includes park fees, guides, transfers, and most meals—no hidden surprises.
What is included in a Whisper Claw safari package?
All packages include accommodation, daily game drives with certified guides, national-park fees, airport transfers, and most meals. Optional experiences such as hot-air balloon rides, night drives, or community visits can be added. International flights aren’t included unless requested. Our team provides a transparent breakdown before booking so you always know exactly what’s covered.
Do you arrange gorilla trekking permits for Rwanda and Uganda?
Yes. We secure gorilla-trekking permits as part of all Rwanda and Uganda itineraries. Rwanda permits currently cost US $1,500, and Uganda permits US $700. Both include professional ranger guides and strict visitor limits to protect the gorillas. We handle the paperwork early to guarantee your trek date—especially in peak season, when permits sell out months ahead.
Can families with children go on safari?
Absolutely. Our family-friendly safaris combine shorter drives, child-friendly lodges, and private vehicles so everyone travels comfortably. Many camps offer kids’ nature walks and junior-ranger programs. While gorilla and chimp treks have a 15-year age minimum, Kenya and Tanzania safaris are perfect for families with children of all ages, guided by experts trained in family travel.
What is the Great Migration and where can I see it?
The Great Migration is the circular journey of more than 1.5 million wildebeest and zebras across the Serengeti and Masai Mara. River crossings between July and September are the dramatic highlight, while January–March marks calving season in southern Serengeti. Whisper Claw’s guides position you perfectly for the action, avoiding crowded lookouts for truly authentic encounters.
How far in advance should I book my safari?
For peak-season travel or gorilla trekking, we recommend booking 9–12 months ahead to secure permits and top lodges. Off-season or shoulder months are more flexible, requiring 3–6 months’ notice. Early planning gives you better route options, internal flight availability, and access to expert private guides—especially for custom safari itineraries and photographic tours.
What should I pack for an African safari?
Keep it light and neutral: khaki or olive clothing, a wide-brim hat, comfortable walking shoes, and layers for cool mornings. Don’t forget binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera with zoom lens, and reusable water bottle. Soft-sided luggage is best for bush flights. Pack curiosity too—the greatest thing you’ll bring home are stories, not souvenirs.
Are your safaris private or group trips?
You choose. We offer private safaris for couples, families, and photographers wanting exclusivity, as well as small-group departures (max 8 guests) for social travelers. Private tours allow full control of pacing and interests; group options provide great value and shared excitement. Either way, every journey is guided by our expert local team for a seamless experience.
